1. Staying healthy beforehand
The healthier you are, the quicker you will recover from surgery. In the few weeks before the surgery try to eat healthily and drink plenty of water. Smoking will also slow down your healing after your operation, the fewer cigarettes you smoke, the faster you’ll recover and there will be a lower risk of picking up infections in hospital.
2. Recommended Exercises
Ask your doctor about exercise. Doing the recommended exercises can strengthen your muscles which can otherwise become much weaker because of reduced mobility. This will greatly speed up the recovery period, and make it easier for you.
3. Arrange to be picked up from the hospital
Driving isn’t recommended until at least 4 weeks after surgery, so ask a friend or family member to take you home from hospital. It might also be worth preparing your car to make it easier to get in and out of.

6. Prepare for household tasks
Buy ready-made meals or groceries in advance that will make cooking easier. Place plates or other things you might need at arm-level, not in low cupboards. Be up to date with laundry and shopping, and get someone to come in and help around the house, and to help you bathing if you need it.
7. Prepare to be seated for long periods of time
Place a phone, water, medication and books or a remote control within easy reach. Procure a chair with a firm, high, seat so you can sit on it with your hips higher than your knees comfortably. Avoid sofas as being low down and unsupported could dislocate your hip.
