What are the nation’s favourite flowers? It’s a question that has divided opinion for years, with no clear consensus on the matter. But we think we might have finally cracked it. Using data from a recent Spring Chicken Facebook survey, we’ve compiled a list of the most popular flowers in the UK – and there are some surprises in store!

So, if you want to know which blooms are top of the wish list, read on…

Rose

There’s no flower more classic than the rose, and it seems that the British public is in agreement. With 22% of people surveyed naming it their favourite, the rose is a clear winner. Whether you prefer red roses, white roses or yellow varieties, there’s no denying that this is a timeless bloom that is loved by many.

The rose has always taken an important role in the English garden dating back to Tudor times and continues to do so well into the 21st century. It is estimated there are over 150 types of roses in existence and it is estimated the flowers date back a mind-boggling 30 million years.

The Rose is not only England’s national emblem it is also recognised as the birth flower for June.

Daffodil

A close second is a daffodil, which received 9% of the vote. This cheerful yellow flower is often seen as a symbol of spring, and its popularity is likely due to its ability to brighten up even the dullest of days.

Fittingly as it rings in the changing of the season the daffodil is the birth flower for March.

Freesia

In third place is the Freesia, with 8% of people surveyed naming it as their favourite. This delicate bloom has a lovely fragrance, which may explain why it’s such a popular choice. The Freesia is commonly associated with trust and innocence.
