2. It’s A Wonderful Life

A stone-cold Christmas classic. George Bailey (James Stewart) is a benevolent business owner who has been protecting his town from the greedy Mr Potter (Lionel Barrymore). Bailey stumbles upon a horrendous situation on Christmas Eve which would see everything he has built crash and burn. He turns to what he believes is the only solution to protect his wife and four children.

However, luckily an angel (Henry Travers) has been sent to not only earn his wings but also to show George what his life would be like if he didn’t exist – a timeless movie filled with love and showcasing the true meaning of life and how ‘wonderful’ it really is!

4. Miracle on 34th Street

Miracle on 34th Street is a must-have on the Christmas movie playlist. There are two brilliant versions the 1947 version and the 1994 version. Both are worthy of any top Christmas movie list. We plumped for the 1947 version as it seems a little bit more magical.

Doris Walker (Maureen O’Hara) is in charge of organising Macy’s Christmas Santa. However, when she hires Kris Kringle (Edmund Glenn) who believes he is Santa Claus a series of seemingly Christmas miracles take place. Kris Kringle’s fight against the commercialisation of Christmas and his belief in the true meaning of Christmas will not be suppressed.

Nevertheless, a man claiming to be the real Santa is sure to raise some questions this culminates in the court case to decide whether Kris Kringle should be committed what follows is a testament to the true meaning of Christmas!

Don’t forget to look out for a very young Natalie Wood.

5. Elf

Elf isn't scheduled for any terrestrial TV showings in 2022, unfortunately as the film will exclusively air on Sky. The classic comedy is showing on Sky Cinema Christmas on Saturday 26th November at 8 pm. It will then have regular showings until Christmas day.

This holiday classic is a great mix of Christmas cheer and laugh-out-loud moments with the infectious Christmas spirit. Buddy the elf (Will Ferrell) leaves the north pole in search of his father and finds it in the form of Walter (James Caan). Walter is a staple on Santa’s naughty list and a career-focused man even to the detriment of his own family. Buddy’s tumultuous journey proves that it’s never too late to change our ways you just must let loose a little bit.

Let’s not forget the beautiful scenery of New York at Christmas is a bonus. A modern Christmas classic.
