My Mother has had Alzheimer's for a number of years now and as time goes on we find it increasingly difficult to find things to talk about, when I visit her in her care home I often sit with her and a mixed group of her friends, this set has led to fantastic conversations with the group, with the men acitively joining in, talking about DIY and the tools they had. To start with, with my Mother, we noticed that short term memory was a problem, but memories from the past were sharper than ever. Now that my mum is in the latter stages of Alzheimer's she struggles more than ever with his memory. This makes any type of conversation almost impossible, and certainly a very stilted and uncomfortable experience for both of us. So what an amazing support these memory collection tins are! Fabulous for early stages of dementia where stimulating memories of the 'old days' can spark lucid moments; bringing back vivid, humorous stories and anecdotes from way back when. The thoughtfulness and detail in the memory collections is stunning. There are examples of old packaging and adverts, and related memorabilia, all in a container reflecting the theme and era. The inclusion of real objects for you to pick up and feel is ingenious. Importantly, there are plenty of things just to talk about. So now that my mum is in the latter stages of dementia, our conversation using the boxes is more around simple observations and expressions of interest. These collections are versatile enough to be used at all stages of dementia. They’re a great investment as you will be able to revisit them again and again and always find something to talk about.
