Guide to buying a Stairlift

If you scroll further down this page you will see we have created a simple 1,2,3,4 checklist for you to use when buying your stairlift. The most important step in getting a stairlift is to organise a home visit to discuss options and get an accurate quote. We do understand that asking people into your home can be daunting, so picking a reputable Stairlift company that are members of the BHTA (British Healthcare Trades Association)  is critical. We are members of the BHTA and are impartial so we can help and advise you on what is right for you.

When we tested this market we were shocked how some companies used ‘pressure selling’ techniques, like leaving the room to talk to their manager to get a better ‘today only’ price, or constant phone calls after the home visit to chase the sale. The industry is represented by the BHTA and all members of the Association have pledged not to use pressure selling techniques or confusing pricing. We are members of the BHTA and so is our stairlift partner. So our advice is, if a stairlift company is not a member of the BHTA – do not deal with them!

  • Have a friend or family member with you on the visit. It helps you to remember all the questions you want to ask and it is good to reflect with someone after the visit
  • Our partner has their staff CRB checked so you can trust who is coming into your home
  • The assessor will take measurements of your staircase and listen to your needs and guide you through the range of straight or curved rails, different seats, footplates, colour choices, fabrics and optional extras
  • Discuss delivery, installation and aftercare
  • Discuss which purchasing option best suits you, whether you’d prefer to rent or buy, or opt for a new or reconditioned model
  • Provide you with a written quotation
3
Review your personalised quote
At the end of your home visit, after everything has been discussed, the assessor will give you a written quotation there and then. Your bespoke quotation will include details of warranty and service options, with absolutely no hidden costs.
  • A clear breakdown of your choices and requirements
  • Details of your warranty and service options
  • There is no obligation to buy
  • Take as much time as you need. When you’re ready to go ahead, just call up
  • If you don’t wish to pursue a stairlift just let our partner know and they will not call you again
4
Get your stairlift installed
When you are ready to get your stairlift installed just call up the number on your personal quote and arrange a convenient date for the installation.
  • Installation takes between two and four hours
  • The rails attach to your stairs, not to the wall, so there is minimal mess or disruption
  • If building work is required this will be arranged for you prior to the installation, and the costs for this will have been included in your quotation
  • The engineers will bring a vacuum cleaner with them so, if there is a little bit of mess they will clean up after themselves
  • Don’t feel you need to make them a cup of tea. They’re pretty self -sufficient
  • Once the engineers have finished fitting your stairlift they will spend as much time as you need showing you how to use it. They will only leave when you tell them that you feel fully confident and all your questions have been answered
